International Shed of the Year is an Ikea Hack

Chuck does Ikea hackers proud by winning the International Shed of the Year competition run by Shedblog. His shed, well it is hardly a shed, a cozy little hideout I would say, features a 16' long window made from Ikea glass shelving. I can't say that the window nailed the prize for him, but it's pretty impressive.

See more photos on Shedblog. Or hop on a house - er, shed tour of Chuck's winner on Apartment Therapy.

2 (or 3 ...) Questions for Nicolas Bovesse

bovesse_portrait.jpg
When we saw work by Belgian designer Nicolas Bovesse recently, we were struck by what a difference the change of an angle, literally and figuratively, can make. Cut flowers are not placed right in water, but stand beside it to be "fed" as needed. A right-angled mirror set within glass that is "off" leads to a tilt of the head. The thought behind his designs and the upfront aesthetics are a combination that makes work by Nicolas Bovesse so intriguing.

Reinventing Art Nouveau

This unusual and fascinating set of furniture comes from Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, a designer that is known for reinterpreting and giving new meanings to History and its influences. These items are a part of a furniture collection called “Manta” and they were designed for Italian company  Ceccotti. The sideboard, the armchair and the desk represent the designer’s unique approach of reinventing Art Nouveau.  Only twenty similar pieces were made, so this is a limited edition. The overall feeling is that of sinuosity and impenetrability and this was made possible by using carbon fiber to build the pieces.  Here are some of Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance’s words from a recent interview concerning his creations : ?I go to a place and let it talk to me, to understand the ambiance and what I want to express, I don?t get caught up in history because it often bogs you down.?- via 3rings
