Add to myYahoo!"Vin-o" wine racks from SIDD are hand made by a single craftsman over a 2-3 week period. Each piece is signed and numbered by the artisan who creates it. The overall design features nine circles that are pieced together in an incongruent fashion creating a unique look that defies symmetry. Vin-o uses sustainable Canadian hardwoods that are shaped and then custom stained before being finished with a triple topcoat. Dimensions: 5" x 15" x 15". Price: $200. Buy product: here.

If FEMA didn't drum up enough of a bad reputation with its immediate response to Hurricane Katrina, the nails certainly went into the coffin as word spread of the abominable conditions inside the government-issue trailers that became housing, office, and school facilities after the disaster. Perhaps the only thin silver lining was the extent to which these missteps raised public awareness about indoor air quality and toxic materials—not just in trailers but throughout the built environment.

The advancement of architecture and design has always been vastly accelerated in the public sector vs. that if the private. This has held true around the world as the pioneers of architecture have been able to express some of the most unique design solutions through cultural structures? with budgets held by wise advisors?in the form of libraries, schools and government buildings. A wonderful example of this is a project completed in 2006 by King Roselli Architetti. the Lateran University Library in Rome, Italy showcases how the works of public structurea advance architectural thinking for the greater good. The new library appears as if the walls of the structure have shifted, allowing for viewers to peer into the heart of the library's center. To see more great images of the this incredibly simple yet wonderfully beautiful building check out the link at kingroselli.com.
